MUFTI SAIF UR RAHMAN
The honourable Sheikh Al-Hadith Allama Abu Al-Wafa Mufti Saifur Rahman Qadri Barkati, hailing from a family that has served the field of Islamic knowledge for centuries, is a notable scholar and author. The students nurtured by his family, many of whom are still providing religious services across the country, are a testament to their dedication. His father, Sheikh-ul-Islam Qazi Muhammad Abdul Subhan (may Allah have mercy on him), authored “Faiz-ul-Anwar Sharh Ma’ani Al-Athar.” His great-grandfather, Allama Muhammad Ghaus Hazravi (may Allah have mercy on him), who taught Hadith in front of the Prophet’s (علیہ الصلاۃ و السلام) shrine in Madinah for eight years, wrote a reputable refutation of the notorious Wahhabi book “Taqwiyat-ul-Iman” by Ismail Dehlvi.
Ancestral Lineage:
Ustadh Al-Mukarram Sheikh Al-Hadith Allama Abu Al-Wafa Mufti Saifur Rahman Qadri is the son of the illustrious Imam Al-Mutakallimin Sheikh-ul-Islam Allama Qazi Muhammad Abdul Subhan (may Allah have mercy on him), the grandson of the great scholar Faqih-ul-Asr Allama Muhammad Mazhar Jameel (may Allah have mercy on him), and the great-grandson of Allama Qazi Muhammad Ghaus Hazravi (may Allah have mercy on him).
Blessed Birth:
He was born on April 21, 1937, in the renowned Quraishi Alawi family in the village of Khalabat, near Haripur in Hazara. His birth brought the melody of Tawheed (monotheism) and Risalat (prophethood) to this transient world.
Education:
Allama Saifur Rahman Qadri Barkati initially received his education at home. He then studied for three years at Madrasah Islamia Anjuman Khuddam-ul-Sufia in Gujrat and two years at Jamia Hazrat Mian Sahib in Sharaqpur Sharif. Following this, he pursued further education at Ahsan-ul-Madaris in Rawalpindi under the tutelage of Allama Arifullah Shah Qadri (may Allah have mercy on him). In 1957, he completed his Hadith studies at Jamia Rahmaniya Islamia in Haripur Hazara under the guidance of his father (may Allah have mercy on him). That same year, he benefited from the teachings of the Ahl-e-Sunnat scholar, Allama Sardar Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) at Dar-ul-Uloom Rizvia in Lyallpur (Faisalabad). Allama Saifur Rahman also studied the renowned geometry book, “Euclid,” from Allama Abdul Jaleel Tonki, a prominent student of Hakim Syed Barakat (may Allah have mercy on him), and hence, he writes “Barakati” with his name. It is worth noting that after the partition of India and Pakistan, Allama Abdul Jaleel Tonki resided in Allama Saifur Rahman’s ancestral village, Khalabat, for two years, during which Allama Saifur Rahman gained further knowledge from him.
After Completing Islamic Studies:
Allama Saifur Rahman soon began teaching at Ashraf-ul-Madaris, the school of Allama Sheikh-ul-Quran Ghulam Ali Okarvi (may Allah have mercy on him). He then served for three years at Dar-ul-Uloom Rabbaniyah Mujaddidiyah in Haripur Station. At the insistence of the Ahl-e-Sunnat leader, Allama Mufti Muhammad Hussain Naeemi, he taught for one year at the renowned Jamia Naeemia. He also dedicated two years to religious services at Dar-ul-Uloom Ahl-e-Sunnat in Jhelum. From October 1979 to 2003, he served as the head teacher and Sheikh-ul-Hadith at Jamia Islamia Rahmaniya in Haripur Hazara. Later, he moved to England to engage in missionary activities. Currently, his son, Qazi Hassan Raza, continues his scholarly and missionary services there, providing academic and spiritual supervision to all the schools run by Saifiya Muhammadiya Welfare Society.
Writing and Speaking:
In both writing and speaking, Allama Saifur Rahman has the remarkable ability to explain the most complex rulings in a simple and concise manner, making even the most difficult topics accessible to his audience. His expertise in various fields is such that he effortlessly manages his daily demanding tasks while continuously engaging in research and writing on various subjects. The grand book in your hands is a testament to his dedication:
